Irvin Pascal

Irvin Pascal is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, sculpture, performance, and architecture. With a background in architecture (BA, University of Brighton, 2008) and an MA in Fine Art from the same institution (2017), Pascal’s practice is deeply rooted in materiality, physicality, and the intersections of cultural identity. Pascal has presented solo exhibitions internationally, including ‘Grand Style X’ at Simchowitz Gallery, Los Angeles (2022), ‘The Painter’s Fruitless Labour’ at Akwa Kubuli Gallery (2021), and ‘The Nenaissance’ at Niki Cryan, Lagos (2019). His work has been featured in prominent group exhibitions such as ‘Talisman in the Age of Difference’ curated by Yinka Shonibare at Stephen Friedman Gallery (2018), ‘Defying the Narrative’ at Ever Gold [Projects], San Francisco (2018), and ‘Twilight of the Idols’ at Alice Black, London (2020). His performances, such as ‘Tribal Poetics’ at the Liverpool Biennial (2023) and ‘Royal XX XX’ at the Royal Academy of Arts, London (2020), explore themes of ritual, movement, and self-mythology. Pascal's artistic investigations extend to public discussions, including speaking engagements at 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair and Mayfair Art Weekend. Pascal has been an artist-in-residence at La Brea Residency, Los Angeles (2019) and his work is held in major collections including the Simchowitz Collection, Soho House Art Collection, Simmons & Simmons LLP, and Hogan Lovells International LLP. His practice continues to evolve through innovative projects like ‘Theistic Craft’ (2023) and ‘Into the Red Corner’ (2019), challenging narratives around power, representation, and historical constructs.
