ART BASEL
From legendary dancers to kinky fauns: 7 unmissable works in the Parcours sector
Freely accessible to everyone, the sector will be spread across Basel's historical center
Elliat Albrecht
Showcasing site-specific installations, performances, and sculptures, the Parcours sector of Art Basel transforms the city's urban landscape into an open-air exhibition. Entirely free and accessible to all, the sector will also be activated with performances and live acts during Parcours Night, taking place on Saturday, June 17 from 6pm to 11pm. Below is a selection of works that invite visitors to engage with art in unexpected ways.
PETRA CORTRIGHT
If the Internet is a bottomless pit, Petra Cortright dives headfirst into the abyss. Moving between painting and digital media, the American artist is known for her works based on the hyper-abundance of images and information in the digital age. An extension of her earlier Purgatory project, Cortright’s new single-channel video is a 17:31-minute mashup of sublime landscapes in perpetual flux. The laws of physics don’t hold up in the video’s imaginary world: Cacti fly through the air, trees float in water, and red-hot lava flows over both land and sky – a fiery nod to the pressing ecological anxieties of the American West.
